MONROE, Michigan — Tension continued to mount in Monroe County’s District 2 after former county commissioner Mark Brant , who was incarcerated for federal drug charges last year, returned to a commissioners meeting and sat in his old seat back in July, despite being declared ineligible to serve.

Now, the county is looking to find a new commissioner to represent District 2, and Michigan's primary election on Aug. 5 narrowed the candidate field. In Tuesday's election, Dale Biniecki and Dwayne Dobbs faced off to see who would secure the candidacy for the Republican Party.

Dobbs, a retired corrections officer with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, said restoring public trust is his top priority.
