Christina Applegate is currently hospitalized due to a severe kidney infection that has affected both of her kidneys. The actress, known for her roles in "Married... With Children" and "Dead to Me," shared details of her health struggles during a recent episode of her podcast, "MeSsy," co-hosted with Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
The 53-year-old actress began feeling unwell while visiting family in Europe. She initially thought her symptoms were related to appendicitis. "I went to Europe to see family, and I was not feeling good the whole time I was there," Applegate said. Upon returning to Los Angeles, she went directly to the hospital, determined to find answers. "I’m staying here because I want answers. I want every test that you can possibly think of or ones that you haven’t even thought of, and I want them done," she insisted.
Applegate described the pain she experienced as excruciating, stating, "I’m screaming, and they ordered me an emergency CT at 2 o'clock in the morning." The scan revealed a kidney infection that had spread from her right kidney to her left. As a result, she is receiving intravenous antibiotics and remains in the hospital.
During the podcast, Applegate humorously recounted how doctors initially suspected a urinary tract infection and even questioned her hygiene practices. "Like, what am I, back-wiping?" she joked. Despite the humor, she admitted to feeling emotional about her health situation. "I’m holding in a bag o’ tears right now," she said, adding that she sometimes breaks down in front of the nurses.
Applegate has been open about her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis (MS), a condition she was diagnosed with in 2021. She revealed that she has been hospitalized over 30 times due to various symptoms related to the disease. "For three years, since I was diagnosed, I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain," she explained.
The actress also discussed the impact of her health on her family, particularly her 14-year-old daughter, Sadie. "She said, ‘I missed who you were before you got sick,’" Applegate recalled, expressing the emotional toll her condition has taken on both her and her family. Despite the challenges, she remains hopeful and is focused on her recovery.
