CENTRAL, SE WASHINGTON – The initial results from the August 5 Primary Election Day have been released, revealing key decisions made by local voters.

In Benton County, Fire District 1's Proposition 1 is passing with 59% of the vote. This proposition aims to restore the property tax levy to $1.50 per $1,000 of property valuation, supporting fire departments and allowing for a levy rate increase up to 6% annually until 2030.

Walla Walla County voters are approving Proposition 1 with 64% support. This measure proposes a 0.2% sales tax increase to fund emergency and first responder systems and facilities.

Mabton's mayoral race in Yakima County sees the incumbent, Rachel Ruelas, trailing with only 9% of the vote. Martha Gonzalez leads with 59%.
