Andy Depaola , an oyster farmer and entrepreneur on the southwestern side of Mobile Bay, dumped an oyster bag onto the dock of his backyard farm on Friday, Aug 1.
It’s a hot summer morning, but Depaola likes the cool feeling and clarity of the water, which is typically murkier, he said. In the distance, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) dredges a shipping lane, an ongoing effort to deepen and maintain the Port of Mobile’s ship channel that will result in millions of cubic feet of sediment being dug up and redistributed into the bay for the foreseeable future.
