Tech Giant Turns to Wood as Building Material to Achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2030

Meta has begun incorporating mass timber construction into its data center infrastructure as part of an ambitious strategy to achieve net zero emissions across its value chain by 2030. The social media giant’s pilot program, launched in 2025, represents a significant shift away from traditional concrete and steel construction methods in favor of sustainable, engineered wood products.

The company has already erected its first mass timber administrative building at its Aiken, South Carolina data center campus, constructed by DPR with materials provided by SmartLam.
