CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Many Rhode Islanders are saddened at the planned closure of Newport Creamery at Garden City in Cranston.

Now, state Rep. Charlene Lima is blaming Garden City’s new CEO for the closure.

Lima says she and Cranston Councilman, Andy Andujar will begin looking for any tax breaks that can be taken away from Garden City’s new owners, WS Development.

The two also criticized the reported plan to bring in an Apple Store to the mall while terminating the creamery’s 63-year lease.

The leaders also voiced concern with Garden City’s safety, in the wake of July’s shots fired incident outside the L.A. Fitness location.
