TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Hillsborough and Pinellas County organizations are teaming up once again for their annual effort to ensure students and teachers have what they need for the school year.
The Hillsborough Education Foundation and the Pinellas Education Foundation are hosting their annual Tampa Bay School Supply Drive. For more than two decades, the organizations have helped more than 200,000 economically disadvantaged students.
"66% of our student population in Pinellas County are on free and reduced lunch," said Kim Jowell, CEO of Pinellas Education Foundation. "They're considered low income. When you think of those families, they have to put food on the table, they have to pay rent, when you think about those variables, you don't have the extra income to spend on school supplies."
