CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Coralville woman was sentenced to six years in federal prison for possessing thousands of fentanyl pills. Ashley Crystal Wachs, 36, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. She admitted to transporting fentanyl from Seattle to Coralville and distributing it locally. During a traffic stop on September 4, 2024, Iowa State Patrol and Johnson County Drug Task Force officers seized over 250 grams of fentanyl, 109.58 grams of flurofentanyl, and 71.96 grams of ice methamphetamine from Wachs' vehicle. Wachs was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 72 months in prison followed by a three-year supervised release.
