YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) -- A man was recently arrested in connection with a football recruiting scam, deputies said.

According to officials, deputies were contacted on March 12, 2025 about a person who had scammed an individual out of over $20,000. The victim told deputies the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Malcolm Xavier Walker, had posed as a high school football recruiter, saying he could get the victim's son a college football scholarship.

Deputies said Walker told the victim he would help to set up visits to colleges, create recruiting videos and arrange travel to football seminars — none of which happened.

Eventually, Walker stopped communicating with the victim, deputies said.
