DOVER — Thanks to funding from the community, local youth got a chance to learn how to swim in late June.

The city was among three locations in the Pacific Northwest selected as a host for the World's Largest Swim Lesson at Dover City Beach.

"Dover is proud to be a host location for this important community service and we hope to make this an annual event," Dover Mayor George Eskridge said.

The goal was to engage local youth and teach them the importance of learning to swim and teaching water safety skills to help prevent drowning. There was no cost to swimmers.
