A Gallatin man is facing criminal charges after police say he neglected his dying wife and sold her pain medication.

The Gallatin Police Department said 64-year-old Timothy Reed Puckett was supposed to be serving as his wife's caretaker.

Officers found the nonverbal woman “bedridden in a hospital bed in the living room” of a home in the 1000 block of Wedgewood Drive on July 31.

“It is sad that the loved ones people are depending on are the ones that neglect them,” Gallatin Police Department Captain Lamar Ballard said.

The woman's condition was not immediately known, and she is not being named by authorities.

She was taken to Sumner Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Police say an Adult Protective Services referral was conducted that same day.
