Kent has been impacted by the wave of summer bank branch closures as the big banks continue their retreat from the High Street - with more banks to close this autumn. Analysis of official data shows that a total of 138 branches across the whole of the UK will be shut down between June and August, with Santander leading the way.

Thirteen banks will close this month, all but one of them branches of Santander, after the banking giant announced it was shutting 95 banks earlier this year. It follows the loss of 84 banks in June and 41 in July.

Kent has not been as badly affected as some areas over summer, but our county has still lost two banks. The Santander branches in Tenterden High Street, and Mortimer Street in Herne Bay both closed for good in July.

And more closures are due in autumn.
