(CNN) – An American journalist who disappeared while hiking in a Norwegian national park has been found alive.

The Norwegian Red Cross said Alec Luhn, a climate journalist from Wisconsin, was spotted and picked up by a helicopter crew.

Authorities said he has injuries to his legs.

Luhn, 38, is an experienced hiker who has completed several previous solo trips in challenging conditions.

His wife reported him missing Monday, after he failed to board his flight home.

She said she last spoke to him on Thursday as he was setting off on a hike in a national park in Southwest Norway.

The search and rescue efforts to find Luhn included volunteers working alongside specialized climbing teams and the use of drones.
