ALGONA, Iowa — The Iowa Court of Appeals has affirmed the conviction of Kyle Lou Ricke for first-degree murder in the shooting death of Officer Kevin Cram from the Algona Police Department.

Ricke was found guilty after a jury trial in July 2024 for shooting Officer Cram eight times on September 13, 2023. Chief Judge Tabor explained that the evidence presented, including Ricke’s actions and statements, demonstrated deliberation and premeditation.

Ricke shot Officer Cram after learning there was a warrant for his arrest. The court highlighted Ricke's decision to retrieve a handgun and fire multiple times at close range as evidence of premeditation. The case was supported by substantial evidence, including dashcam footage, testimony from Ricke’s mother, and forensic analysis.
