FORT STEWART, Ga. (WSAV) — An active shooter has been confirmed at Fort Stewart, and an unknown number of victims are being taken to a local hospital, according to Maj. Charles Egan.

Lt. Col Angel Tomko, Division PIO, said the incident occurred in the 2nd Brigade area located off of Highway 144, about 43 miles southwest of Savannah.

The brigade, which is not located in the main Fort Stewart area, is currently on lockdown, as is the Wright Army Airfield roughly five miles away, per the Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield (FSHAA) Commander.

FSHAA confirmed through Facebook that Fort Stewart DoDEA schools are on lockdown as well. That includes Button Gwinnet Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary and Snelson Golden Middle School.
