A former Miami Heat security guard and retired police officer allegedly stole $2 million worth of memorabilia , the Justice Department said.
Marcos Thomas Perez, 62, is charged with transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate commerce after allegedly stealing jerseys and other memorabilia and selling the items online.
He worked as a security guard for the Heat from 2016 to 2021 and as an NBA security worker from 2022 to 2025.
Perez also worked for the Miami Police Department from November 1992 to April 2016.
While he was employed by the team and league, he allegedly stole more than 400 game-worn jerseys and other items from the Kaseya Center equipment room.
The memorabilia was being kept in storage for a future team museum.
