MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made his first public comments Wednesday since President Donald Trump appointed him to his Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition last Thursday.
He was honored to be named, although Trump humorously did butcher the pronunciation, and he actually didn’t know how it all happened.
“I think it’s pretty cool. It’s an honor,” Tagovailoa said after the team’s practice Wednesday. “I don’t know too much about it.”
Tagovailoa got a kick out of Trump’s mispronunciation of his name: “Tag-oh-vah-lee-ah.”
“I don’t think he’s had the worst,” Tagovailoa said. “I’ve heard a couple worse in Alabama. But it is what it is. I don’t take that to heart.”
