AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) - A Friday deadline has been set for Texas House Rep. Gene Wu, chair of the House Democratic Office, to respond to a petition filed by Gov. Greg Abbott requesting the Texas Supreme Court to remove Wu from office. The move comes as more than 50 Texas House Democrats continue to postpone quorum in response to attempts to redraw congressional district maps.
In the 35-page filing that was submitted Tuesday night, Gov. Abbott writes that allowing quorum breaks now can mean that lawmakers “can do so for any, and every, Regular of Special Session, potentially bankrupting the State in an attempt to get their way.”
