HOUSTON (KIAH) — The Lamar Little League team from Richmond is heading back to the Little League World Series after winning the Southwest Regional championship.

Lamar Little League, based 25 miles southwest of Houston, beat Lakeview Little League from Kenner, La., 5-2 on Tuesday to clinch the Southwest Regional championship. The team won three of four games at the regional tournament.

This will be Lamar’s third appearance at the World Series after making back-to-back appearances in 2003 and 2004.

Lamar is the first American team to qualify for the LLWS, which starts on Aug. 13 in Williamsport, Pa. Their first game will be on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
