Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly recently sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) asking for a major presidential disaster declaration for the Public Assistance Program due to damage to public infrastructure caused by severe storms and flooding during the period of June 3-7, 2025 according to a press release Wednesday.
If the declaration comes to pass, it would begin the process of receiving federal funding to repair damages caused by the flooding and storms.
Among the 16 counties included in the request is Lyon County. Preliminary estimate reports revealed over $150,000 in damages to roads and other infrastructure.
