A wholesale store could be expanding to East Texas following recent approval from a city board.

The city of Tyler Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday approved three zoning permits related to the development of BJ's Wholesale Club, a membership-based store similar to Sam's Club or Costco, at South Broadway Ave. and West Cumberland Road.

The board gave its approval for a zoning change to allow for the store on two pieces of land as well as a special use permit to allow for fuel sales.

A representative for BJ's at the meeting said there are no locations in Texas at this time, but four stores are under construction in Forney, Waxahachie, Grand Prairie and Fort Worth. The representative also said there would be a landscape buffer on West Cumberland Road.
