SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The crowd of just over 5,700 in the stands of Snapdragon Stadium for San Diego FC's match against Mazatlán FC on Tuesday was not disappointed as the home club shut out the visiting LIGA MX team 2-0.

Despite San Diego already being eliminated from the Leagues Cup before the start of the match, they didn't mind spoiling the chances of the heavily-favored Mazatlán, who was knocked out of the summer tournament with the loss to San Diego.

San Diego midfielder Onni Valakari was explosive on offense, scoring both of the club's goals in the match.

The matchup marked the third and final game of Phase 1 of the tournament for both San Diego and Mazatlán, and also the first-ever victory for San Diego in the Leagues Cup.
