SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two 16-year-old boys were arrested in connection with possessing a loaded firearm in Springfield last week.

Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh stated in a news release that, over the past several months, the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) has been involved in an investigation into illegal firearms, specifically targeting a 16-year-old boy.

Last Wednesday, July 30, police received information that the suspect and another 16-year-old boy allegedly had a firearm. Detectives were granted a search warrant for an apartment on the 200 block of Dickinson Street, and at approximately 9:10 p.m., police searched the residence.
