The Wausau Farmers Market is celebrating National Farmers Market Week, held Aug. 3-9, a time to highlight the importance of farmers markets in the community.

The market, located in the parking lot near Oak Island Park, is open from 7 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and Saturdays through mid-November, according to a community announcement.

Frank Stella, owner of Cricket Bow Farms and market manager, said the market hosts about 40 farm businesses, with nearly all vendors selling products they produce themselves.

"The farmers market is a vital community staple," Stella said. "Our local farmers work hard to get food to our local community and National Farmers Market Week is a great time of the year to come and visit us."
