Zookeepers in San Diego do everything they can to care for their animals, but sometimes there are threats that are out of their control.

That appears to be the case up at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in North County, in a story f irst reported by the Voice of San Diego . Late last year, on Dec. 12, in the space of a little over two weeks, a bobcat entered animal enclosures, preying on a flamingo and a small antelope.

"… a 4.5-year-old female greater flamingo was found deceased in her housing area," reads, in part, an inspection report crafted by Alexandra Andricos, a veterinary medical officer employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
