CHICAGO (WGN) — A national television-comedy legend with ties to the Chicago area will receive a city honor next month on the North Side near a condominium he once called "home."

Earlier in the year, the Chicago City Council approved an honorary street renaming for late comedian and sitcom icon Bob Newhart, who died July 18, 2024, at 94.

The designation will take place on North Sheridan Road between Ardmore and Thorndale Avenues. Set for 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, the renaming ceremony coincides with what would have been Newhart's 96th birthday.

Newhart's children will be on hand for the unveiling.
