A boat caught fire on Sunday morning near Gene Coulon Park.
The fire was reported at 8:32 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Gene Coulon Boat Launch. Renton Police Department spokesperson Meeghan Black said their officers were the first to respond because they were at the park due to traffic from the Seafair event.
Black said they were told when the boat owner started the boat’s blower, there was an explosion and the boat was soon engulfed in flames. Black said the fire was spreading to the dock, so the boat was cut loose, and it drifted into another slip to the north, which also caught on fire.
“We had to close two docks and the slip,” Black said.
Black said the boat owner suffered a burn to the leg.
“There was a small fuel spill and hazmat responded to clean it up,” Black said.
