SEBASTIAN COUNTY, Arkansas — Two Sebastian County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) deputies who were stabbed in May while working in the detention center have returned to work after completely recovering from their injuries, according to an Aug. 6 SCSO report .

On May 9, authorities told 5NEWS that Deputy Jacob Mar and Lt. Brandon McCaslin were stabbed by John Anthony Cole , a man convicted of murder in Arizona. Just three weeks after the stabbings, Cole was sentenced to 200 years in prison for a 2021 Fort Smith murder in addition to the stabbing of the deputies.

SCSO spokesperson Philip Pevehouse confirmed to 5NEWS that the deputies were stabbed with a shank at the detention center, with one being stabbed in the arm and shoulder, and the other being stabbed in the torso.
