COLUMBIA — The S.C. National Guard is activating 40 service members to assist ICE in the Trump administration’s latest step of pulling in state help for its immigration enforcement efforts.

S.C. guard troops will enter into a new agreement, known as Title 32, to assist the federal Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement inside the states, not just at the southern border.

“These service members will assist ICE in administrative duties,” Maj. Karla Evans, with the SC National Guard, wrote in a media statement.

“We anticipate service members will be placed on Title 32 status before the end of the month, the locations have not been established,” she added.

Title 32 states that troops will remain under state control but be funded federally.
