LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A police officer is being honored for saving a woman who tried to jump from an overpass in Lufkin.

Lufkin police officer Christian Ibarra, was honored at the Lufkin City Council meeting on Tuesday.

Ibarra responded to a call about a person on an overpass in the area of the east Loop overpass at Ford Chapel Road where he found a woman standing against a concrete barrier. When the woman saw the police vehicle, she began to straddle the barrier.

When Ibarra approached, the woman attempted to fall to the road below, but Ibarra caught her and pulled her back over the concrete and onto the roadway.

“Helping this woman in a time of crisis was part of Christian’s normal workday,” Lufkin Police Chief David Thomas said. “After he took her to a local healthcare facility and
