An Army sergeant opened fire at Fort Stewart on Wednesday, shooting five soldiers and prompting a brief lockdown at one the country’s largest Army bases, officials said.

The suspect, Sgt. Quornelius Samentrio Radford, is from Jacksonville, Florida, and joined the Army in January of 2018, officials said.

The 28-year-old is listed as an automated logistical specialist, assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Stewart, records showed.

Sgt. Radford has had no deployments. 

The victims were all shot with a personal weapon — not a military weapon — that belonged to the suspect, Brig. Gen. John Lubas said.
