WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A local state lawmaker is hoping changes are made after another drug exposure sends several prison workers to the hospital.

It comes as numbers show violence and contraband in prisons are on the decline.

“My fear is that one day, it will be a call where they say 24 went to the emergency room and one’s in the morgue,” said state Senator Dan Stec (R-45th District).

In January, more than 20 prison workers, including nurses and correction officers from Upstate Correctional Facility near Malone, were sent to the hospital after they were possibly exposed to drugs.

On Monday, it happened again. This time to seven prison workers at Clinton Correctional Facility near Dannemora. Three people were administered Narcan.
