Driving dozens of miles and waiting sometimes for hours to cross the border back to the U.S. to color your hair or get your nails done may sound crazy to some, but for many people, this is the norm.

It’s not only the cost that is driving them to Mexico, but also the service. They say the personal attention makes them feel like they’re home.

Like many women, Claudia Souza from Chula Vista considers her hair a significant part of her identity. So when her hairstylist of 18 years in San Diego told her five years ago that she was retiring, she had to find a new hairdresser.

“I decided to go to Tijuana because my daughters were getting their hair done there,” Souza told NBC 7 Responds.

Going to the beauty salon in Tijuana was certainly an adjustment, according to Souza.
