ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The City of St. Petersburg has installed an AquaFence to help with floods at Lift Station 85.
The city said it chose this particular wastewater facility because it is responsible for 25% of the city's wastewater, including many of the area's hospitals.
The AquaFence is 500 linear feet long and 9 feet high.
St. Pete is taking the lessons learned from last hurricane season to prepare for this year.
"During Helene, the flood waters actually reached the edge of the stairs and were encroaching on entering this facility, so it's pretty critical that we provide these measures and reinforcements," said Kira Barrera, St. Pete Water Resources Department.
Lift Station 85 is critical, as officials said a quarter of the wastewater from the city flows to this station,
