LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Low air quality has been a concern for people across Mid-Michigan for much of the past week, but it turns out the smoky conditions can actually be detrimental to your pets.

6 News stopped by a local dog park to see what people are doing to protect their furry friends. One dog owner says she's keeping a special eye on her pet.

"Winnie, she's 5 and then Copper is 2," says pet owner Taili Samson. "I mean, she starts coughing or sneezing, if she's starting to get fatigued, we're leaving now. I think she's starting to get a little bit tired. [The air quality so probably contributing a little bit."

While the air quality has started to improve in the capital area, how can you keep your animal; safe the next time you start seeing smoky conditions.
