LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The capital city may soon see a new LGBTQ+ inclusive homeless shelter.
Imagine you’re out on the streets and without a place to rest your head and call home. You find yourself in search of a shelter catered to those in the LGBTQ+ community, but you feel as if you have to change to stay there.
That’s how Lucas Keith says he felt back in 2019.
"I felt like they weren't accepting at all,” said Keith. “So, I just couldn't tell them my gender identity, or what I identified as, or what name I was going by at the time."
Keith is a transgender male, and says they had to go by their birth name, and even hiding their transgender tattoo.
"I felt like I couldn't be my true self when I was there,” said Keith.
