LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive directive Friday, asking state agencies to raise awareness on how Michiganders can keep or obtain health insurance in the wake of changes to health insurance on the federal level.

According to Whitmer, over half a million Michiganders use the Affordable Care Act Marketplace to obtain health insurance, but recent changes to the process could potentially make it more difficult for them to do so.

The governor says the Open Enrollment period has been shortened; where it previously lasted from Nov. 1 to Jan. 15, it will end Dec. 15 starting in 2026. Additionally, she says the discontinuation of tax credits that were available to nearly 90% of Michigan insurance buyers means premiums will rise by up to $400 a month
