GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A decision made on the cooling station in Gastonia didn’t change much, but it didn't come before a heated discussion questioning temperature guidance, moral obligation and the utilization of city personnel.
During Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, leaders deliberated on the timelines and conditions under which the temporary cooling facilities at 107 S. Broad St. should operate this summer. With a 4-1 vote, they will continue under the guidelines determined at the July 15 meeting.
City Manager Michael Peoples told council in the 16 mostly scorching days since, that there have been nine days of indoor operations and seven outdoor, based on the daily high temperature: 90-94 degrees would open the outdoor facility, and 95 would trigger utilizing the in
