NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - And then there was two. Right before the Saints left for California, they waived punter Matthew Hayball.

Saints have two punters on the current roster, James Burnip and Kai Kroeger.

Hayball started all 17 games for New Orleans in 2024. Last year, Hayball beat out Lou Hedley for the starting spot.

This will be the fourth year in a row the Black and Gold have a new punter. In 2022, Blake Gillikin held down the position.

Burnip is a 2025 undrafted rookie. He played his college ball for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Saints signed Kroeger on July 31. Kroeger punted at the University of South Carolina.

With a spot open on the roster, the Saints re-signed Hunter Dekkers.
