Laredo man takes plea deal in child sexual abuse case, receives 10 years’ probation

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a minor has received 10 years of probation as part of a plea deal.

In 2023, Gerardo Paredes was indicted on three charges: continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, first-degree sexual assault of a child and second-degree sexual assault of a child.

Two years later, on July 1, 2025, Gerardo accepted a plea deal that resulted in the dismissal of two out of the three counts of sexual abuse against him.

His attorney, Philip Del Rio, stated that Paredes would avoid jail time, and he noted that the prosecution did not have a strong case heading into trial.
