LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A group of high school students is returning to school with community service hours and knowledge of the judicial system.

As part of Judge Beckie Palomo’s Learn and Earn CSH Program, 70 students spent their summer gaining first-hand experience with the justice system.

During the program, students would attend different courtrooms to observe various court cases, including aggravated assault trials and sexual crimes against children.

A senior at Alexander High School, Amairani Ramon, believes this program illustrates the types of crimes occurring in our community.

“We live in a small city, and I feel like oftentimes we feel as though not a lot of things go on as you’d see in other bigger cities or other parts of the world. Things do go on, we just aren’t super aware
