JEFFERSON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Ashe County Schools received a timely donation from across the state.
On Tuesday, the Ashe County Board of Education landed 750 backpacks full of school supplies from the Durham Rescue Mission. The organization typically offers a solution to homelessness and addiction in the Triangle area that goes beyond just meeting basic needs.
The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office helped unload and finish packing the bags. Deputies will hand them out on Saturday, Aug. 9, at their Back 2 School Blast.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at the county government center. Local school-age children can stock up on back-to-school needs, including free haircuts and supplies, sweet treats and a hot dog lunch.
