The city of Albuquerque is officially in the crosshairs of the Trump administration amid a promised crackdown on illegal immigration and communities that stand in the way.
The U.S. Department of Justice placed New Mexico's largest city on a list of 35 "sanctuary" jurisdictions. The designation, which comes with the threat of litigation, is "based on actions and policies that materially impede enforcement of federal immigration statutes and regulations," according to the department.
"Sanctuary policies impede law enforcement and put American citizens at risk by design," Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement.
