The student newspaper at Stanford University sued the Trump administration on Wednesday over the government’s attempt to use federal immigration law as a way to deport noncitizens who have spoken out on their pro-Palestine beliefs.

The student newspaper brought the suit because of two anonymous members of the newspaper, who have had to “self-censor” their published and unpublished work because they were afraid of deportation based on their noncitizen status and demonstrated pro-Palestinian views. The student newspaper is being represented by the nonprofit, activist group The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), and the suit was brought in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
