NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Individuals interested in a law enforcement career can apply to take the police officer exam without the need to pay application fees; however, the current registration window is only open until August 14.

Applicants must have at least 24 college credits in order to apply. The minimum age requirement to become a police officer is 20 years and 6 months.

Salary starts at $60,884 but increases to $126,410 after five and a half years of service.

Interested parties must register with the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services online application system.

You must score at least 70% to pass the multiple-choice test.
