NEW YORK (PIX11) --- An Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainee from Queens hung himself in the shower of the Pennsylvania facility where he was being held, officials said.
Chaofeng Ge, a 32-year-old Chinese native from Flushing, was found hanging by the neck in the shower at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg at around 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday, according to an ICE press release.
Ge was pronounced dead less than an hour later despite staff efforts to revive him, officials said. His death was ruled a suicide after investigators found a handwritten note, according to ABC News.
Officials said the Queens resident was only in ICE custody for five days while awaiting a hearing before the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review.
