COTTONWOOD, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A grass fire erupted just south of Cottonwood near Cross Plains on Wednesday afternoon.

A fire broke out on Wednesday, August 6, in the 13000 block of County Road 429 just south of Cottonwood.

The Callahan County Sheriff's Office and fire crews from Cross Plains, Baird, Rising Star, Burkett, Putnam and Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Departments all responded to the blaze. Our reporter on the scene says the Texas A&M Forest Service is about to send up a drone and has sent in at least five bulldozers.

The Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Viewer has listed this fire as Callahan 3705. At 7:00 p.m., it is said to be 6 acres and 0% contained.

At this time, it is not known if any structures have been involved.
