PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Republicans in the Arizona State Senate announced on Wednesday that lawmakers will hold a closed-door meeting next month amid concerns about potential failures at the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS).

State Sen. Carine Werner , a Republican from Scottsdale, said that the first stakeholder meeting is scheduled for Sept. 3 as political leaders sound the alarm following the deaths of three children in the state who had prior contact with DCS.

“The deaths of Emily Pike, Zariah Dodd, and Rebekah Baptiste should be a wake-up call for us all,” said Werner in part. “These tragedies make it painfully clear that when our child protection systems–both state and tribal–fail, the consequences can be horrific. We cannot allow these failures to repeat."
