ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - As the most active part of hurricane season begins, Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple is encouraging residents to not only prepare for storms, but also for the state’s ongoing insurance crisis.

Following a speech to the Greater Beauregard Chamber of Commerce on August 6, Temple urged homeowners to become what he called “insurance ready.” That means reading over your policy, talking with your insurance agent and knowing what is and isn’t covered before a storm hits.

He also recommended getting a wind mitigation survey, which could lead to discounts, and reminded the public about the new $10,000 state tax deduction available for installing a fortified roof.
