BAKER, La. (WAFB) - Baker firefighters say an explosion caused a house on Southwest Drive to get engulfed in flames Friday morning, leaving one man in critical condition. His neighbors say they stayed with him until help arrived.

“All of a sudden, I hear this scream: Help, help!” Cathy Toliver said.

Toliver was in her backyard Friday morning when she says she heard an explosion, comparing it to the sound of a bomb being dropped from the sky, followed by a cry for help.

“I jump in my car because it’s directly behind my house. But what separates us is the canal. So I run over here and lo and behold, this house was on fire,” Toliver said.
